HR Coordinator

Altarum

Silver Spring, MD
Full-Time
1–3 years of internship or professional experience experience

Description

At Altarum, we're driven by a simple but powerful mission: improving the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and populations underserved by the healthcare system. We partner with federal and state agencies to design and deliver solutions that make a real, measurable difference.

We're a small but mighty HR team that plays a big role in supporting our people and our mission; and we're looking for someone who's excited to jump in, contribute, and grow with us!

This is not your typical "behind-the-scenes" coordinator role.

As our HR Coordinator, you'll be a critical partner to both HR and Talent Acquisition, helping ensure everything runs smoothly — from welcoming new hires to keeping our HR operations organized and responsive.

You'll thrive here if you:

  • Love being thego-to support person
  • Take pride in being responsive, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Enjoy juggling multiple priorities and keeping things moving
  • Are energized by helping others and making processes better This role is perfect for someone who truly enjoys being in a high-impact coordination role; someone who is energized by helping others, staying organized, and keeping things running smoothly every day. There is room to grow on our team; but we're looking for someone who truly enjoys and excels in the coordinator/support space today.

Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Own onboarding logistics, including HR orientation, system entry, and new hire setup
  • Manage onboarding schedules and ensure a seamless first-day experience
  • Support employee recognition programs and engagement initiatives

HR Operations

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR systems (HRIS)
  • Support offboarding processes, including exit workflows and system updates
  • Monitor and respond to the HR inbox, ensuring timely and helpful communication
  • Run reports, analyze data, and support HR projects across the team
  • Maintain HR SharePoint/intranet sites and internal resources

Talent Acquisition & Hiring Support

  • Coordinate interview scheduling and support recruiting logistics
  • Partner with the HR and TA team to ensure a smooth, positive candidate experience
  • Assist with various Talent Acquisition coordination efforts as hiring needs evolve

Team & Project Support

  • Act as a central support hub for HR projects; organizing, tracking, and helping drive progress

  • Assist with administrative tasks, purchasing, and general department coordination

  • Jump in wherever needed; we're a small team, and we all roll up our sleeves

  • Hybrid in Silver Spring, MD with occasional in-person collaboration days

  • If you're near one of our offices (Arlington, VA; Silver Spring, MD; or Novi, MI), you'll join us in person one day every other month (6 times per year) for a fun, purpose-driven Collaboration Day. These days are filled with creative energy, meaningful connection, and team brainstorming.

  • Non-local employees will join these days virtually and may be asked to join us occasionally in-person.

Eligibility Criteria

We're looking for someone who brings both strong execution skills and a proactive, service-oriented mindset:

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive

  • Strong sense of urgency and follow-through

  • Excellent communication and customer service mindset

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Someone who takes pride in being dependable and responsive

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • 1–3 years of internship or professional experience in Human Resources, or professional experience providing administrative support

  • Experience with HR systems (UKG/UltiPro preferred) is a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion Recent graduates with relevant internships are encouraged to apply; especially if you're excited about building a career in HR!

  • Candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.

  • All work must be performed within the continental U.S. for the duration of employment, unless required by contract.

  • Ability to work core hours aligned with Eastern Time, unless otherwise approved by your manager.

  • Remote employees must maintain a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions, with reliable internet and a mobile device that supports efficient work.
