Network Operations Center (NOC) – Overview

The Network Operations Center (NOC) serves as the central command and control hub for Transportation Execution across Amazon's Supply Chain network, spanning multiple geographies including North America, India, and the EU.

NOC is responsible for ensuring the seamless, on-time movement of freight — from vendor pick-ups to Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FCs), and from FCs to carrier hubs. When exceptions arise, NOC takes swift ownership of resolution while keeping all relevant stakeholders informed throughout the process.

Beyond tactical problem-solving, NOC is also entrusted with a strategic mandate: identifying trends in network exceptions, driving process automation, and recommending operational improvements to streamline transportation workflows. This requires continuous network monitoring and in-depth analysis of network data.

In essence, NOC plays a pivotal role in the smooth functioning of Amazon's transportation network — directly influencing Amazon's ability to deliver on its promise to customers.

Role of a Trans Ops Representative

A Trans Ops Representative at NOC acts as a critical link between key stakeholders — including Transportation Carriers, Hubs, and Warehouses — facilitating the flow of information and resolving issues that could impact customer experience or business continuity. The role spans two core verticals:

  • Inbound Operations – Manages the Vendor/Carrier/FC relationship, ensuring freight is picked up on time and delivered to FCs as per scheduled appointments. The Trans Ops Representative addresses any issues arising during the pick-up to delivery lifecycle.
  • Outbound Operations – Manages the FC/Carrier/Carrier Hub relationship, ensuring trucks depart FCs on schedule to fulfill customer delivery promises. The Trans Ops Representative addresses any issues from the point freight leaves the FC through to last-mile delivery.
Trans Ops Representatives drive real-time resolutions by leveraging internal tools, querying relevant data, and making informed, time-sensitive decisions. The ideal candidate brings a solid understanding of logistics operations, a sharp eye for data trends, and the ability to communicate effectively — both verbally and in writing.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Trans Ops Representatives are expected to proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and drive them to completion. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serving as the communication bridge between external stakeholders (Carriers, Vendors/Suppliers) and internal stakeholders (Retail, Finance, Software Support, Fulfillment Centers)
  • Systematically escalating issues or data variances to the appropriate owners and teams, and following through to ensure timely resolution
  • Preparing and presenting weekly narratives that outline key findings and variances against goals in review forums
  • Delivering real-time customer experience support within a 24×7 operating environment

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • 12–24 months of relevant work experience
  • Strong communication skills — both verbal and written — with the ability to facilitate seamless information flow between external and internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with strong academic foundation
  • Sound logical and analytical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple cross-functional teams
