Who we are
CivicDataLab (CDL) works at the intersection of data, technology, design, and social science to strengthen access to public information, evidence-based decision-making, and citizen participation in governance. CDL harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think tanks, and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to enable data-driven decision-making at scale.

What are we looking for?
We are currently looking for a Communications Fellow to support CivicDataLab's communications, outreach, and storytelling efforts across projects, programmes, and convening.
This is a full-time, in-person fellowship role suited for early-career professionals who are interested in public-interest technology, data-for-good, and social impact communications. The fellow will work closely with the Communications & Outreach team and programme teams to assist in creating content, managing platforms, supporting events, and strengthening engagement with our community and partners.
We are looking for someone with up to 6 months – 1 year of prior experience (including internships, fellowships, or student-led work) in communications, media, design, journalism, development communications, or related fields.
Note: Candidates currently pursuing their degree are not eligible to apply, as this is a full-time, in-person position.
On completion of the fellowship period, the candidate may be considered for a full-time role based on performance, organisational needs, and mutual interest.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
The Communications Fellow will work as an execution and coordination support across CivicDataLab's communication workstreams.
Content & Platforms
- Support in drafting, editing, and publishing content for social media, website, newsletters, and email outreach.
- Assist in creating posts, basic creatives, presentations, and documentation material.
- Help adapt content for different platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, website, emailers).
Campaigns & Outreach
- Assist in executing communication campaigns for projects, fellowships, and convenings.
- Support dissemination of reports, announcements, events, and opportunities.
- Help monitor engagement, responses, and basic performance metrics.
Design & Media Support
- Coordinate with designers and programme teams for social media assets, reports, and event collaterals.
- Assist with basic design edits using tools like Canva, Figma, or Adobe (where required).
- Support short-form video editing, captioning, and documentation of events.
Events & Convenings
- Support communication and outreach for events such as CivicSabha, roundtables, webinars, and workshops.
Assist with on-ground documentation, social media coverage, and post-event dissemination.
Coordination & Documentation
- Maintain mailing lists, stakeholder databases, and shared content repositories.
- Support preparation of communication trackers, calendars, and reports.
- Assist the communications lead in day-to-day coordination and follow-ups.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of experience or strong demonstrated interest in communications, media, social impact, or public-interest work.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Interest in data, AI, governance, public policy, climate, gender, or social impact domains.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms and digital communication formats.
- Familiarity with tools such as Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Canva, and social platforms.
- Willingness to learn design, content workflows, and campaign execution.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, in-person environment.
Good to have (not mandatory):
- Experience with student publications, social media pages, NGOs, college societies, or campaigns.
- Basic design/video skills.
- Prior exposure to the development sector or public-interest organisations.

- Remuneration: ₹20,000 - 25,000 per month (based on experience)
- Location: Delhi, in-person, with travel to other states in India if required (reimbursable)
- Duration: Minimum 6–8 months, with possibility of extension or conversion to full-time based on performance and mutual agreement

Our Hiring Process
The entire hiring process typically takes 2–4 weeks and includes:
- You apply with your CV and (if available) portfolio/work samples
- Shortlisted candidates are invited for an introductory conversation with a few technical and situational questions
- Final in-person interview with select candidates
(Note: Travel expenses for in-person interviews will need to be borne by the candidate if residing outside Delhi) - If all goes well, we share the Fellowship contract and onboarding details
