Job Description – Senior Associate, Finance & Accounting

Division: Nonprofit Finance & Accounting – U.S. Client Delivery
Location: India (U.S.-aligned shift as required)
Reports To: Team Lead/AM/DM/M


Purpose of the Role

The Senior Associate independently manages the month-end close and financial reporting processes for assigned U.S.-based nonprofit clients. This role ensures financial statements are prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP, supports grant compliance, and maintains audit-ready documentation.

The Senior Associate is responsible for reviewing the work of Associates and Junior Associates, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to client-specific requirements. This position represents a critical control point within the delivery structure.


Roles & Responsibilities

1. Month-End Close & Financial Reporting (Primary Responsibility)

  • Manage the full month-end close process for assigned clients.
  • Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements (Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, Statement of Functional Expenses, Cash Flow).
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accuracy of balance sheet accounts and resolution of reconciling items.
  • Monitor timely completion of close checklist activities.
  • Validate proper classification of net assets (with and without donor restrictions).

2. Functional Expense & Allocation Oversight

  • Review allocation methodologies across program, management & general, and fundraising categories.
  • Ensure consistency in application of allocation bases.
  • Support preparation of functional expense reporting schedules.
  • Identify potential misclassification or compliance risks.

3. Grant & Compliance Management

  • Assist in restricted fund tracking and grant expenditure reporting.
  • Assist indirect cost calculations.
  • Support compliance with 2 CFR 200 cost principles.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for Single Audit requirements (as applicable).
  • Identify potential unallowable or questionable costs and escalate appropriately.

4. Audit & Documentation Leadership

  • Lead/Work on preparation of standard audit schedules.
  • Ensure workpapers are complete, organized, and audit-ready.
  • Respond to auditor requests in coordination with Team Lead.
  • Monitor documentation discipline across assigned engagements.

5. Review & Team Support

  • Review work of Associates and Junior Associates.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to Junior Staffs.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members.
  • Ensure adherence to internal quality standards.

6. Systems & Process Excellence

  • Utilize accounting systems effectively (Quick Books, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, MIP, etc.).
  • Identify recurring process inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Support standardization of close processes across clients.
  • Ensure data integrity within financial systems.

Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
  • 3–6 years of accounting experience, including exposure to U.S. accounting.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and reconciliation processes.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting (ASC 958).
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Ability to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously.
  • Should communicate effectively with stake holders

Preferred

  • Experience supporting nonprofit audits.
  • Exposure to 2 CFR 200 compliance.
  • Experience reviewing junior staff work.
  • BPO or shared services experience.

Working Conditions and Environmental Attributes

Working Days : Monday - Friday

The employee must be willing to work at a location in a small-to mid-sized office setting, plus attend client conferences and meetings that may or may not be held during the workday. Travel to other Quatrro locations or client offices may be necessary, as well as physical presence at company meetings with other offices throughout the globe.

Working Hours – 9 hours (US work Shift Pattern), mix of WFO and WFH.
