Description

This is a remote position.

Mathematics Subject Matter Expert, India Remote (India) | Freelance, project-based Also searched as: Maths Subject Matter Expert, Maths Expert, Q&A Expert, Academic Content Expert, Freelance Maths Content Writer, VCE Maths Content Developer

Do you want to create high-quality maths resources on your own schedule, paid per project, for a company that actually cares how good they are?

A typical brief might be a set of exam-style questions for a Year 11 topic with full worked solutions, or a booklet section aligned to the VCE syllabus, delivered to a clear spec and an agreed deadline.

About Contour

We started in 2020 with a handful of students and a belief that great education should not be out of reach. Today we operate across three brands with 8,000+ students and 425+ team members: roughly 100 in India and 325 onshore in Australia. The India team runs publishing, student experience, CRM and technology, operations, and people and culture.

Freelance does not mean lower standards here. Your worked solution is still the moment a stuck student gets it or does not, so clarity is still the whole job.

About This Role

You create original mathematics content for Contour on a project basis. You take clear briefs from the content team and produce questions, worked solutions, booklet sections, and assessments for Grades 9 to 12, aligned to the VCE and Pre-VCE syllabus. The quality bar is the same as our in-house team: accurate, logically structured, with step-by-step solutions written in a tutor's voice that a student can follow on their own. To be clear, this is content creation, you build resources from a brief, rather than answering one-off student questions.

You work remotely on your own schedule, to deadlines agreed per project. This is freelance and project-based, paid per project or per resource, agreed openly upfront. It suits experienced content creators, tutors, and strong postgraduates who want flexible work without dropping their standards. Reliable delivery and consistent quality can turn into ongoing work or, if you want it, a full-time seat.

Requirements

What You Will Do

  • Take briefs and build. Produce original maths content to a clear spec: questions, worked solutions, booklet sections, and assessments.
  • Write like a tutor. Deliver step-by-step, student-friendly solutions that explain the reasoning, not just the answer.
  • Align to the syllabus. Match the VCE and Pre-VCE curricula for accuracy, consistency, and fit.
  • Deliver to deadline.  Manage your own schedule and hand work in on time, to spec.
  • Revise cleanly. Take feedback and turn it around without losing quality.

What You Need

  • Strong mathematics, comfortable across Grades 9 to 12, VCE ideally.
  • A proven ability to write clear content and worked solutions, with a sample or portfolio to show it.
  • Excellent written English and sharp attention to detail.
  • Reliability to deadlines, and the self-management that freelance work needs.
  • Cross-timezone comfort, with some overlap into Australian time for briefs and feedback.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with VCE mathematics or another international curriculum.
  • Prior edtech content, academic writing, or tutoring experience.
  • A portfolio of maths resources or worked solutions you have created.

The Kind of People Who Thrive Here

The freelancers who do well here treat a brief as their own, hit deadlines without chasing, and take pride in a worked solution a student can follow alone. They are self-managed, accurate, and easy to work with over feedback. The best of them become people we come back to again and again.

What good looks like

  • Briefs delivered on time, to standard, with minimal revisions needed.
  • Solutions a student can follow alone: the reasoning is visible, not just the result.
  • Syllabus-aligned: material fits the VCE and Pre-VCE curricula and holds up.
  • A relationship, not a one-off: the quality earns ongoing work.

Benefits

Freelance and fully remote, anywhere in India. You work your own schedule to deadlines agreed per project. Compensation is per project or per resource, agreed openly upfront. Reliable, high-quality contributors can move into ongoing work or a full-time role if they want it.

Apply with a CV or portfolio and a short sample: a few questions with full worked solutions, or a booklet section you have written. If you have VCE-aligned work, lead with that.
