A CG Layout Artist acts as the digital cinematographer of a VFX or animation production, bridging the gap between storyboards and final animation. They block out character movements, establish camera positions, define scene perspectives, and assemble the overall 3D environment using raw assets.

Responsibilities:

1. Translating Storyboards: Converting 2D animatics and storyboards into fully dimensional 3D environments.
2. Camera Composition: Setting camera paths, focal lengths, lens characteristics, and motion to dictate the narrative flow.
3. Environment Blocking: Assembling proxy geometry, backgrounds, and digital sets for downstream departments like Animation, Lighting, and FX.
4. Matchmove Integration: Recreating real-world set geometry, lens distortions, and actor tracking data to seamlessly blend live-action footage with CG assets.

• Create high-quality camera, object and body tracks from live-action plates.
• Solve lens distortion, rolling shutter and complex camera movement challenges.
• Build and maintain layout scenes using tracked cameras and production assets.
• Prepare scenes and proxy geometry for downstream departments.
• Set up environments and basic scene assembly.
• Ensure continuity and scale consistency across sequences.
• Work closely with Supervisors, CG Leads and Production to meet deadlines.
• Troubleshoot difficult tracking and layout issues while maintaining shot quality.

Job requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Animation, Fine Arts, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in feature film animation or a related field.

• Solid knowledge of:

  • 3DEqualizer
  • Maya
  • Nuke

• Excellent understanding of camera tracking principles, lenses and real-world cinematography.

• Experience with LiDAR, photogrammetry or scene reconstruction is beneficial.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to work efficiently within a production schedule.

• Excellent English for smooth communication with London Supervisors

Desirable Skills:

• Currently based in Mumbai
• Join immediately
• Knowledge of rigging and character/prop setup.
• Familiarity with visual effects pipelines and workflows.
• Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Notes:

• This is 6 months contract
• This will require you to work from office based in Mumbai
