FITTER – FABRICATION / MECHANICAL

What you will do

KMW is hiring a skilled Fabrication / Mechanical Fitter to perform marking, measuring,fitting, alignment, assembly, and modification of metal components. The candidate mustensure dimensional accuracy, compliance with approved drawings and specifications,safe working practices, and timely completion of fabrication jobs in accordance withKMW quality standards and applicable internal Heartfulness requirements.

Key Responsibilities

A. Fabrication Fitting and Assembly

1. Read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, dimensions, tolerances,and work instructions.
2. Mark, measure, prepare, fit, and assemble metal plates, sections, frames,brackets, supports, channels, angles, pipes, and other fabricated components.
3. Ensure correct dimensions, alignment, levels, clearances, hole positions, andcomponent orientation before welding or final assembly.
4. Perform mechanical assembly, bolting, fastening, drilling, grinding, deburring,and minor finishing using appropriate tools.
5. Prepare components for tack welding and coordinate with welders to maintainalignment and minimize distortion.
6. Carry out dismantling, adjustment, modification, and reassembly as instructed.
7. Identify and report mismatched, damaged, distorted, or incorrectly fabricatedcomponents and drawing discrepancies. B. Measurement and Quality Control
8. Use measuring tapes, steel rules, squares, spirit levels, vernier calipers, andother suitable measuring instruments.
9. Verify dimensions, squareness, parallelism, alignment, fit-up, joint gaps, andother specified tolerances during fitting and assembly.
10. Rectify routine fitting defects within authorized limits and escalate majordiscrepancies to the supervisor.
11. Support in-process and final inspections by providing measurements and accessto components.
12. Minimize dimensional errors, rework, material wastage, and damage to finishedcomponents. C. Tools, Equipment, and Production Coordination
13. Select, operate, and maintain appropriate hand tools, grinders, drills, spanners,clamps, and approved power tools.
14. Inspect tools and equipment before use, store them properly, and report defectsor unsafe conditions.
15. Confirm the availability and correctness of materials, components, fasteners, andconsumables before starting work.
16. Coordinate with supervisors, welders, helpers, stores personnel, and other fittersto meet production schedules and ensure smooth movement of componentsthrough fabrication, welding, grinding, inspection, and finishing.
17. Report material shortages, equipment issues, drawing clarifications, andproduction delays; maintain required job and material records. D. Safety and Housekeeping
18. Follow KMW safety procedures and wear task-appropriate PPE, including safetyfootwear, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection where required.
19. Handle heavy components, sharp edges, hot metal, and suspended loads safelyusing appropriate supports, clamps, and authorized lifting equipment.
20. Operate machinery and power tools only when trained and authorized.
21. Maintain clean and organized workstations and tool storage areas; keepwalkways and emergency access routes clear.
22. Follow scrap segregation and waste-disposal procedures and immediately reportaccidents, near misses, equipment defects, and unsafe conditions.

• ITI in Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, Fitter-Fabrication, or a related trade is preferred;
• candidates with demonstrable practical fitting skills may also be considered;
• Ability to interpret basic engineering and fabrication drawings and understand dimensions and tolerances;
• Practical proficiency in measuring, marking, alignment, drilling, grinding, bolting, and mechanical assembly;
• Ability to understand work instructions and safety procedures in a language understood by the candidate;
• Ability to work independently on assigned jobs while coordinating with the production team.
