Job Summary
 The Government Affairs Summer Intern will support the team in tracking global sustainability trends, identifying strategic opportunities, and assisting with key external engagement initiatives. This internship offers hands-on experience in corporate advocacy, international policy strategy, and sustainability communications, providing insight into the intersection of regulations, public affairs, and business strategy.

Rather than focusing solely on legislative research, the intern will contribute to projects that position Okeanos in emerging policy discussions, funding opportunities, and global initiatives. Tasks include analyzing regulatory trends, supporting Okeanos' positioning in sustainability dialogues, and identifying engagement opportunities with policymakers, NGOs, and partners.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze regulatory and sustainability trends and identify strategic opportunities for Okeanos.
• Research global policy developments (plastic regulations, EPR, taxes, bans).
• Track plastic reduction targets and corporate sustainability initiatives.
• Identify and support grant applications and funding opportunities.
• Draft position papers, policy briefings, and advocacy materials.
• Research public affairs forums and support event preparation (e.g., COP, UN Plastics Treaty talks).
• Monitor government and regulatory developments and maintain a global legislation tracker.
• Summarize meetings and events, and identify coalitions and policy networks.
• Collaborate with sales, marketing, and legal teams to align policy insights with business goals.

Job qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's student in political science, international relations, public policy, environmental studies, law, or related fields.
• Strong interest in sustainability, environmental policy, and government relations.
• Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Able to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a global setting.
• Available 25 hours per week.
• Located in the Asia Pacific region.
• Willing to travel up to 25% within the territory.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English and local languages.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Internship or academic experience in government affairs, policy research, or sustainability.
• Familiarity with plastic regulations and sustainability frameworks (e.g., EU Green Deal, UN Plastics Treaty).
• Experience in policy analysis, stakeholder mapping, or legislative tracking.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
