Manager – Broadcast Operations

Location: Mumbai**| Function:**  BONE | Reports to: Naval Sehgal

Purpose

Key Responsibilities

• Operate playout automation systems (MEDIA-X, ADC) for live/non-live transmission
• Manage on-air content, ads, and graphics during live events
• Execute live sports broadcasts (IPL, ICC, football leagues, etc.)
• Handle OTT streaming workflows (HLS, RTSP, multi-bitrate streaming)
• Monitor streams and ensure error-free transmission
• Coordinate with programming, scheduling, and production teams

Key Metrics

Broadcast Operations Excellence

• Achieve 99.9%+ playout accuracy with zero critical on-air errors during scheduled transmissions.
• Ensure timely execution of live, delayed (As-Live), and recorded broadcasts as per transmission schedules.
• Minimize transmission disruptions through proactive monitoring and issue resolution.

2. Live Sports Event Execution

• Successfully execute live broadcasts for marquee sporting events (IPL, ICC tournaments, Football leagues, Wimbledon, Commonwealth Games, etc.) without operational lapses.
• Ensure seamless switching between live feeds, commercial breaks, graphics, and programming elements.
• Adhere to event-specific broadcast timelines and operational run-downs.

3. OTT & Digital Delivery

• Ensure uninterrupted OTT stream availability across supported platforms.
• Maintain optimal streaming quality by monitoring latency, bitrate, and stream health.
• Ensure timely escalation and resolution of OTT transmission issues.

4. Operational Compliance

• Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), broadcast regulations, and transmission guidelines.
• Maintain accurate transmission logs, incident reports, and operational documentation.
• Ensure adherence to disaster recovery and contingency procedures during critical broadcasts.

5. Stakeholder Collaboration

• Ensure effective coordination with Programming, Scheduling, Production, Engineering, and Master Control teams.
• Support smooth execution of high-priority sporting events through proactive communication and issue management.

Critical Competencies

Broadcast & Playout

• Proficiency in MEDIA-X, ADC, or equivalent playout automation systems.
• Accurate playlist management and schedule execution.
• Seamless management of commercial insertion, promotional content, and graphics.
• Understanding of SCTE markers and automation workflows (where applicable).

Live Transmission

• Experience in handling live and As-Live sports broadcasts.
• Knowledge of signal routing, feed switching, and redundancy management.
• Familiarity with satellite, fibre, and IP-based contribution/distribution workflows.

OTT Operations

• Working knowledge of OTT delivery technologies including:

• HLS (HTTP Live Streaming)
• RTSP
• Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) Streaming

• Monitoring of OTT stream health, latency, buffering, and playback quality.
• Understanding of CDN delivery concepts and streaming diagnostics.

Broadcast Systems

• Familiarity with:

• Video Servers
• Master Control Room (MCR) Operations
• Graphics Integration
• Audio Channel Management
• Encoder/Decoder workflows
• Broadcast Monitoring Tools

Incident Management

• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve transmission issues within defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Timely escalation of critical incidents while ensuring business continuity.
